INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis Athletics Department continued its long standing academic prowess as evidenced by the most recent NCAA Academic Progress Rates (APR), released earlier this week. Each academic year, every Division I sports team's APR is calculated using a simple and consistent formula. Scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for staying on course for a degree in their chosen major and one point for being retained (or graduating) at the end of each academic term. For schools that do not offer athletics scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.

Six IU Indy programs - men's golf, men's tennis, softball, women's golf, women's soccer and women's tennis - all earned perfect scores of 1,000 in the most recent multi-year rates. Eight different Jaguar programs are ranked among the top two among the state of Indiana's Division I programs while nine IU Indy programs rank among the top two in the Horizon League.Â
"Departmentally, we put particular emphasis on the academic success of our student-athletes," IU Indy Director of Athletics Luke Bosso said. "Our young men and young women work incredibly hard in the classroom and we have an incredible academic staff that keeps them on pace to graduate and perform well throughout their academic careers.Â
"These numbers are a reflection of that hard work and persistence. We're going to work to continue to improve on our numbers, but for the most part, we're pleased with how well we've performed as a department."
In addition to the five perfect scores sitting atop the state and league standings, the men's soccer team sits alone atop the state and Horizon League standings with a multi-year score of 997. The men's basketball program is tied atop the Horizon League and second in the state of Indiana at 989 and women's track and field ranked No. 2 in the Horizon League with a score of 997.Â
