GREEN BAY, Wisc. - The IU Indianapolis women's cross country team earned a sixth-place finish at the 2024 Horizon League Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Nov. 3), putting up 190 points in what ended up being a very balanced race. Senior
Ellie Cates paced the Jaguars 12 entries, finishing the 6,000m race in a time of 22:22.3, placing 18th of 116 total runners.
Carina Alanis was next in line at 23:22.5, placing 33rd overall and sophomore
Grace Bragg, who missed the team's last outing due to illness, placed 38th overall at 23:31.4.
Robert Morris captured the team title with 67 points and Oakland was second with 74. Milwaukee's Annelise Egge took the individual tape in a time of 21:07.9, winning by two seconds.
"We finished about where I thought we would today," head coach
Antonio McDaniel said. "We've got an incredibly hard working team that I look forward to building with moving forward. I fully expect this group to move up in the Horizon League next year. Our culture is in a great place and our team is willing to put in the work to get where we want to be in this league."
Freshman
Ella Colclesser continued to impress, placing 47th overall at 23:43.5 as the team's No. 4 finisher and senior
Laci Provenzano rounded out the scoring group, placing 61st at 23:57.4. That came as Provenzano had missed significant time of late due to injury.
Hannah Robbins notched a new personal best with a time of 23:58.4, shedding 11 seconds off her prior 6K best.
Behind her, freshman
Mary Fritch crossed at 24:07.0 and
Ella Tamburrino was just off her pace at 24:17.1. Another freshman,
Julianna Crow, closed at 24:28.6 and classmate
Aubrey Nowaskie finished at 25:00.4.
Julynne Spidell capped the team's entries at 25:06.0.
McDaniel's team continued to patch together its bunch on Saturday as former all-leaguer
Julie Smith was sidelined, having missed the entire season to date.
The Jaguars will compete at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Norton, Ohio, on Nov. 15.
