GREEN BAY, Wisc. - The IU Indianapolis men's soccer team had a critical road opportunity go by the boards on Saturday (Oct. 26) as the Jaguars were upended by host Green Bay, 2-0. The Phoenix scored a pair of goals in the closing 10 minutes against a short-handed Jaguars squad to claim a critical three points in the Horizon League standings.
IU Indy (5-7-3, 2-4-1 HL) wasn't even credited with a shot as Green Bay (10-5-1, 4-2-1 HL) finished with a 19-0 shot advantage and 9-1 margin in corner kicks.
An already arduous task got increasingly tougher for the Jaguars when junior midfielder
Quentin Flowers was sent off in the 68th minute for a hard tackle in the midfield. From there, the Jaguars' defense tried to hunker down and weather the attack in front of goalkeeper
Mason Taylor.
However, the Phoenix finally broke the ice in the 81st minute when Chris Album redirected a So Nishikawa pass past Taylor for his sixth score of the year. Album effectively ended the match in the 84th minute when he settled a long pass, spun past a Jaguar defender and unloaded a left-footed shot past Taylor.
Album finished with a game-high five shot attempts, putting three on target.
Taylor made five saves in the loss while Green Bay goalkeeper Alvaro Rodriguez went untested at the other end of the field.
The Jaguars, now locked in a three-way tie for seventh place in the Horizon League standings, will return to action on Friday (Nov. 1) at Milwaukee.
