INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women's basketball team hosts back-to-back #HLWBB games this week with the first game set for Thursday, January 11 at 7:00 PM. The Jags host Wright State on Thursday then will welcome Northern Kentucky to the Jungle on Sunday for a 2:00 PM tipoff.

In the first contest of the new year, the IUPUI women's basketball team defeated the Detroit Mercy Titans in an overtime thriller, 81-76. Katie Davidson recorded her second 30-point game with 30 points. Jazmyn Turner added a season-high 21 points.

Katie Davidson made her IUPUI debut in a loud way and continues to lead the Jags. The junior recorded her second 30-point game of the season against Detroit Mercy to earn #HLWBB Player of the Week. Davidson has been a consistent starter for the Jags and leads the Horizon League in scoring with 19.2 points per game.

Tahlia Walton, a graduate transfer from Kentucky Wesleyan, has battled injury on and off this season but continues to make an impact when she's on the court. Walton ranks second on the team in points per game with 12.0 and brings down an average of 3.9 rebounds per game.

Graduate student Jazmyn Turner recorded a double-double in the opening game of the season with 19 points and 17 rebounds. She totaled seven points and two rebounds before suffering an injury in the first quarter at Ohio State and missed seven straight games. When the #HLWBB Preseason All-League First Team pick returned to the court for the Jags she was restricted to set minutes in her first few games. During the Jags win over Detroit Mercy, Turner was back to full form totaling a season-high 21 points and eight rebounds. She leads the Jags in rebounds per game with 7.1.

Coach Bruce's squad is looking to hunt their way through the Horizon League standings this season as they were picked to finish ninth of 11 teams in the conference, according to the league's coaches. IUPUI finished third in the regular season standings during the 2022-23 season with a 13-7 record and entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed. They were shocked in the quarterfinal round by the No. 6 seed Purdue Fort Wayne. The Jags fell 0-4 in #HLWBB play to start the 2023-24 season but the Jags look to use the win over the Titans as a turning point in league play.
