INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball program has announced the signing of Kennesaw State-transfer
Yves Nkomba to an athletics aid agreement to join the Jaguars ahead of the upcoming 2023-2024 season. Nkomba, a 6-foot-11 center, was part of KSU's ASUN Championship team last season, helping the Owls to an NCAA Tournament appearance. A native of England, Nkobma comes to IUPUI with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"Yves brings something that we didn't really have on our roster in that he's a true big man and true rim protector. He's really fluid and runs the floor well," head coach
Matt Crenshaw said. "I think he fits in well with our other bigs because each of them give us a different look. Yves is long, plays really hard and immediately makes us better on the defensive end.
"He's still young in his basketball career and we think he's got some really good basketball ahead of him. We're excited to get him here and get him in the gym with our other guys."
Nkomba made nine appearances off the KSU bench last season, totaling seven points, six rebounds and three blocked shots. He played a season-high eight minutes against Brewton-Parker, finishing with four points, two rebounds and two blocked shots. Nkomba began his collegiate career at Paola College and then played his sophomore year at Three Rivers College. He originally came to the U.S. to play for Impact Basketball Academy in Las Vegas.
Nkomba is the Jaguars' fourth transfer addition of the offseason, joining
Kidtrell Blocker (Buffalo),
Abdou Samb (Rhode Island) and
Qwanzi Samuels (George Washington).
The quartet joins a strong returning nucleus as IUPUI is expected to return all-league guard
Jlynn Counter (14.5 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 3.3 apg) and #HLMBB All-Freshman Team honorees
Vincent Brady II (10.9 ppg, 58 3's) and
DJ Jackson (9.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg). The Jags are expecting a lift from
Bryce Monroe (12.0 ppg, 3.8 apg in 4 games), who missed virtually all of last season due to injury. Other key returners will include
Daylan Hamilton (6.4 ppg),
John Egbuta (6.2 ppg, 3.2 rpg),
Armon Jarrard (5.3 ppg, 19 3's),
Amhad Jarrard (4.5 ppg) and
Cooper Dewitt (1.2 ppg).
