INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's tennis team captured the doubles point but came up short in singles play as the Jaguars fell to crosstown foe Butler by a 6-1 score inside the Butler Bubble on Friday (Mar. 24). The loss snapped the Jaguars' six-game winning streak, dating back to the start of the month.
The day started well for the Jaguars as IUPUI (8-9) secured the first point of the day with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles from the freshman pair of
Emma Dell and
Grace Lampman and a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles from
Marta Krakowski and
Sarah Lounsbury. In doing so, Krakowski and Lounsbury improved to 6-0 on the year as a tandem and Lounsbury improved to 15-6 on the year in doubles play and 13-3 this spring. Krakowski moved her doubles record to 10-3 on the season.
However, the momentum was halted when singles play began as Butler (7-10) swept the six courts in the 6-1 victory.
Meghan Bernard was upended at No. 1 singles by Butler's Natalie Boesing, 6-0, 6-1, and
Samantha Hayward fell at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2. Dell battled Butler's Chase Metcalf at No. 3 singles before falling 6-2, 6-3 and Lounsbury fell 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot.
Lampman fell at No. 5 6-0, 6-1 and Krakowski was defeated at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
IUPUI will return home to host the University of Indianapolis on Wednesday, Mar. 29 at the on-campus outdoor courts at 4:00 p.m.
