ORLANDO - The IUPUI women's tennis team extended its winning streak to four straight matches - matching the program's longest in eight years - as the Jaguars cruised past Aquinas College, 7-0. The Jaguars rolled past a short-handed Aquinas squad as their opponents yielded the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches due to only having five players.
IUPUI (7-8) made it 2-0 as
Samantha Hayward and
Meghan Bernard coasted to a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles and
Makenzie Myers and
Sarah Lounsbury followed suit with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
The doubles point, coupled with
Grace Lampman's default win at No. 6 singles, staked IUPUI to a quick 2-0 lead. All five courts of singles ended in straight sets as IUPUI hemmed up the victory.
Myers won at No. 1 6-1, 6-2 and Bernard won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. Hayward won her fourth straight singles match at the No. 3 spot with a 6-2, 6-3 win and
Emma Dell also collected a fourth straight win with a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at No. 4 singles.
Lounsbury extended her personal winning streak to five straight with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.
IUPUI will return home to host Rose-Hulman on Tuesday (Mar. 21) before then trekking to Butler on Friday (Mar. 24). IUPUI is 3-1 against in-state opponents so far this spring season.
