ZIETLOW AND OTERO EACH COLLECT TWO WINS IN JAGUARS’ LOSS AT BALL STATE

Both the men’s and women’s swim and dive team fall to Cardinals in Friday night dual meet

MUNCIE, Ind. – The IUPUI swim and dive teams fell to the Ball State Cardinals during Friday night's dual meet. Junior Emmaleigh Zietlow highlighted the women's competition with two individual wins while Sebastian Otero once again shined on the diving boards for the men's team.
 
The Jags earned their first top place finish with Zietlow taking first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:20.74. Freshman Youssef Magdy led the men's team with a first place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 9:37.76. Michael Esdon took second behind Magdy.
 
Freshman Nathan Rariden then took first in the men's 200 free with a time of 1:43.53 while Jack Gallob sealed a second place finish in the men's 100 back at 51.99. Logan Kelly collected a second-place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 55.86.
 
Madelyn Weber then earned points for the women's team with a second-place finish in the 200 fly at 2:13:35. Isaac Wilson earned second for the men with a time of 1:54.10.
 
Spencer Jyawook added points for the men's team finishing second in both the 50 free (21.20) and the 100 free (47.25). Grayson Tidwell then collected a first-place finish in the 200 back with a time of 1:54.12 while Logan Kelly earned first in the 200 breast at 2:02.12.
 
Next up was the 500 free with Zietlow earning her second individual win with a time of 5:00.41. Magdy finished in second for the men with a time of 4:39.84.
 
For the men's 100 fly, Keiran Rahmaan took second (50.79) while Wilson followed in third (51.22). Tessa Jones earned points for the women's team with a second-place finish in the 400 IM (4:41.91). Luke Dibley was the top finisher for the Jags in the men's 400 IM at second with a time of 4:09.26.
 
IUPUI women's 400 free relay team made up of Zietlow, Lillian Brandt, Priscilla Zavala and Tori Barnet took first with a time of 3:40.49. The men's relay team made up of Rariden, Kelly, Jyawook and Gallob took second with a time of 3:06.44.
 
On the boards, Otero led the men's team with back-to-back wins. He took first in the 1-meter with a score of 334.73. Blake Vanderjeugdt took third while Adam Schmehl took fourth. In the men's 3-meter, Otero defeated his nearest competitor by 91.05 points with a dominate score of 404.10. Schmehl took third for the men's team.
 
For the women's dive team, Sadie Smith led in the 1-meter dive with a second place finish with a score of 260.10. Alaina Heyde earned third in the 1-meter dive. Heyde took second on the 3-meter board with a score of 267.98 while Smith earned third.
 
The Cardinals defeated the women's team, 171-119 and took down the Jaguars' men's team, 164-136. Both the men's and women's team will face Ball State at IUPUI's annual House of Champions on November 16-18.
