INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women's basketball team welcomes in-state rival, the Ball State Cardinals to the Jungle on Wednesday, November 22 for a 2:00 PM tipoff. Since it's Thanksgiving break, students that show their Crimson Card on gameday will receive two free tickets for guests.
The Jaguars enter the contest 1-3 overall with a loss at UIC fresh on the mind. The Jags look to bounce back into the win column this week. Ball State enters Wednesday with a clean record of 4-0 with wins over Tennessee Tech, Troy, Chicago State and the University of Northern Iowa.
Katie Davidson made her IUPUI debut in a loud way. The junior transfer from Miami (Ohio)
sat out last season for personal reasons but made her presence known with 32 points and seven rebounds in the season opener against Eastern Illinois. She followed that performance with 23 points and five rebounds at No. 7 Ohio State. Davidson has been a consistent starter for the Jags and leads the team in scoring with 16.8 points per game.
Graduate student
Jazmyn Turner recorded a double-double in the opening game of the season with 19 points and 17 rebounds. She totaled seven points and two rebounds before suffering an injury in the first quarter at Ohio State and has missed the last two games. Turner was named to the #HLWBB Preseason All-League First Team after averaging a team-high 14.9 points with a second-best 5.8 rebounds per game this past season.
Since Turner's injury,
Abby Wolterman entered the starting five and has stepped up for the Jags.
The sophomore recorded a career-high 12 points in the Jaguar's loss at UIC and now leads the team in rebounds per game with an average of 5.0.
Coach Bruce's squad is looking to hunt their way through the Horizon League standings this season as they were picked to finish ninth of 11 teams in the conference, according to the league's coaches. IUPUI finished third in the regular season standings during the 2022-23 season with a 13-7 record. The Jags entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed and were shocked in the quarterfinal round by the No. 6 seed Purdue Fort Wayne.
