INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men's and women's swim and dive teams hosted Cleveland State and Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon with the men's team completing the sweep. The women's team split with a win over Cleveland State but falling to Milwaukee. Sophomore diver,
Sebastian Otero broke the IUPUI program record in the 3-meter event to highlight the meet.
With the new program record from Otero, the Jags swept the competition on the boards. Otero earned the men's 1-meter and 3-meter titles with a record setting score of 404.40 in the 3-meter and 323.85 score in the 1-meter.
Alaina Heyde earned the sweep in the women's competition with a score of 285.90 in the 3-meter and 292.65 in the 1-meter.
Sadie Smith placed second in both events while
Adam Schmehl took second in the men's 1-meter. Otero, Schmehl,
Blake Vanderjeugdt, Heyde and Smith have now all qualified for the NCAA Zones.
In the pool, the Jags led off Saturday's meet with the 400 medley relay. IUPUI's team of
Emmaleigh Zietlow,
Victoria Surdyka,
Lillian Brandt and
Kate Larsen finished third while the men's team of
Jack Gallob,
Logan Kelly,
Kevin Burke and
Spencer Jyawook earned first with a time of 3:20.11.
Freshman
Youssef Magdy earned another first-place finish on the weekend in the 1000 free with a top time of 9:34.25. Zietlow then collected the top spot in the women's 200 free with a time of 1:54.40.
Nathan Rariden came in second in the men's 200 free with a time of 1:42.70.
Next up was the 50 back with Burke earning the first-place finish with a time of 23.26. Surdyka then finished second in the women's 50 breast with a time of 31.24 while Kelly collected another win in the men's 50 breast (25.76).
Brandt took the top spot for the Jags in the 50 free with a second-place finish at 24.30. Jyawook then went back-to-back earning the first-place finish in the 50 free (20.54) and 100 free (45.75). Burke collected a second-place finish in the 100 back with a time of 51.02.
The Jags turned to the 100 breast with Surdyka taking second for the women's team at 1:07.60. Kelly collected another first-place finish for the men with a time of 55.49.
Zietlow then earned another first-place finish with a time of 5:06.21 in the 500 free while Magdy took first for the men with a time of 4:39.10.
Brandt earned the top overall time in the 50 fly with a time of 26.27 while Zietlow collected her third first-place finish of the meet with a time of 2:08.41 in the 200 IM.
Luke Dibley earned the win on the men's side with a time of 1:56.16 in the men's 200 IM.
Both the men's and women's 200 free relay teams finished second to close out the meet.
The men's swim and dive team is now 8-0 overall with three Horizon League wins while the women's team is 5-4 overall and 2-1 in conference. Both teams travel to Ball State on Friday, November 3 at 5:00 PM.
