MUNCIE, Ind. – The IUPUI women's tennis team kicked off their spring season on Saturday when they traveled to Muncie to face the Ball State Cardinals. The Cards defeated the Jags, 7-0.
Coming off a season with injuries and low numbers, the Jags and new head coach
Pawel Gajdzik will look to change things around in the next couple of years. IUPUI kicked off the match with doubles where
Sarah Lounsbury and
Grace Lampman fell 6-1 at number two doubles and
Marta Krakowski partnered with
Emma Dell, falling at number three doubles, 6-0. The number one doubles partnership of
Makenzie Myers and
Samantha Hayward were tied at 3-3 when the match went unfinished.
After dropping the doubles point the Jags fell in straight sets in singles play. Myers fell in the number one spot, 6-0, 6-0 while Hayward fell at number two singles, 6-1, 6-1. Dell fought in the first set, 7-5 but fell in the second set 6-1 while Lampman fell at number four singles, 6-0, 6-0. Lounsbury lost at number five singles, 6-0, 6-3 and Krakowski lost at number six singles, 6-2, 6-1.
IUPUI will return to Indy to host Western Illinois on January 27 for a first serve at 12:00 PM.
