IUPUI SWIM KICKS OFF SEASON WITH 4-1 OUTCOME AT BUTLER DOUBLE DUALS

FISHERS, Ind. – The IUPUI men's and women's swim teams competed at the Butler Double Duals for the first meet of the 2022-23 season where they finished 4-1 overall with wins over Butler, Eastern Illinois, Saint Louis and Bellarmine. Xavier was the only team to out swim the Jags.
 
On the women's side, IUPUI recorded 11 top five finishes with four of those taking the top time. Sophomore Emmaleigh Zietlow dominated the distance events with first place finishes in the 1000 (10:23.99) and the 500 free (5:02.21). She also was a part of the first-place 400 free relay team made up of Zietlow, Lilly Brandt, Avery Brooks and Gabby Puryear-Lynch. The 400 free relay team took the top spot with a time of 3:05.45. Freshman Puryear-Lynch also earned her first individual collegiate win in the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.27.
 
Other top five finishes for the women's team include a second-place finish in the 100 free from Brandt (53.05), second-place finish in the 200 IM from Emma Theobald (2:10.81) while freshman Jenna Taylor took fourth (2:13.72). Theobald also earned a third-place finish in the 200 back (2:06.22) while Brooks finished fourth in the 50 free (24.72)
 
The men defeated four out of the five teams with 18 top-five finishes and three top times. Kevin Burke took first place in the 50 free (21.29), sophomore Dane Charleston earned the first-place finish 200 back (1:53.67) and Logan Kelly came out on top in the 200 breast (2:01.64).
 
Other notable top times include four second-place finishes. The 200-medley relay made up of Ben Kimmel, Kelly, Wes Wickens and Burke, finished in second with a time of 1:33.85. Freshman Isaac Wilson showed his young talent with a second-place finishes in the 200 free (1:44.89) and the 200 fly (1:54.24). Wilson also earned a third-place finish in the 500 free (4:46.60). Grayson Tidwell finished second in the 200 back with a time of 1:54.14.
 
The Jags recorded two other third-place finishes with Nick Dibley earning a third-place finish in the 200 free (11:44.89) and the 400 free relay team made up of Burke, Omar Fathallah, Wickens and Kelly finishing with a time of 3:09.94).
 
Both the men's and women's teams are now 4-1 and will return to the IUPUI Natatorium for the home opener against UIndy on October 7th starting at 4:00 PM.
