JAGUARS TO HOST BELMONT AT CARROLL STADIUM ON TUESDAY

IUPUI (1-2-3) to take on Belmont (3-1-2) on ESPN+

9/19/2022 11:38:00 AM

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will host Belmont (3-1-2) at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 20). Tuesday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ as Greg Rakestraw (pxp) describes the action. On the pitch, head coach Sid van Druenen's team is coming off a 2-0 road loss at Loyola and will face Belmont ahead of three straight Horizon League games.

The Jaguars have been potent offensively, tallying 13 goals in the season's first six games. Redshirt freshman Josemir Gomez has a team-high four goals while junior midfielder Lukas Hackaa has a team-high 10 points with three goals and four assists. Junior attacker Logan Finnegan has two goals and two assists with a team-high 18 shot attempts.

IUPUI has gotten goals from seven different players while 10 different Jaguars have at least one assist.

Defensively, IUPUI has also yielded 13 goals so far this season with junior goalkeeper Lucas Morefield having started five of the team's six matches. Morefield owns a 2.00 goals against average and .630 save percentage with a 1-2-2 record.

QUOTABLE
"Result aside, I think it's a huge positive. It was a massive learning opportunity for us. We told the guys at the beginning of the game, we started seven freshmen today and wanted to see if we can compete against a program that's probably a little ahead - A10, good footballers, high intensity - and I think the guys did that. We competed really well. We were really unlucky to have conceded a goal with 90 seconds to go in the first half. Then the second half, we add a forward and decided to chase the game to see if we can find a tying goal and unfortunately, we end up conceding a second (goal)," van Druenen said following the Jaguars' 2-0 loss at Loyola last Tuesday.

SCOUTING BELMONT
Belmont is 3-1-2 overall and 1-1 in two road games this season. The Bruins recently won at UNC Ashville for its lone road win of the season and followed with a 2-1 home win over Bradley to open Missouri Valley Conference play. Belmont has outscored opponents by a 7-6 margin on the year and have outshot opponents by nearly three attempts per contest. Liam O'Brien has three of the team's seven goals and both Michael Saunders and Jansen Wilson are tied with a team-high three assists. In goal, Nate Logan has played all 540 minutes with a 1.00 GAA and .778 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
IUPUI is 1-1 all-time against Belmont, having won the first-ever meeting between the two sides by a 4-2 score in Lexington, Ky., in 1998. Belmont won last year's meeting in Nashville by a 4-0 score.

UP NEXT
