JAGUARS TO HEAD TO CHICAGO TO FACE LOYOLA ON TUESDAY

IUPUI (1-1-3) to face the Ramblers (3-0-2) on Tuesday night (Sept. 13) at 6:00 p.m. CST

9/12/2022 10:58:00 AM

CHICAGO - The IUPUI men's soccer team will head north to take on Loyola Chicago on Tuesday night (Sept. 13) at 6:00 p.m. CST on ESPN+. The Jaguars come in unbeaten in their last three games and have scored 10 goals over the span, ranking among the nation's elite attacks.

The IUPUI attack leads the Horizon League in goals (13), assists (16), points (42) and shots (76) in the season's early going while junior midfielder Lukas Hackaa leads the league in assists (4), ranking seventh in the country in the category. IUPUI boasts three of the top five point scorers in the Horizon League in Hackaa (10), Josemir Gomez (2nd - 9 pts) and Logan Finnegan (5th - 6 pts). Seven different IUPUI players have scored at least one goal this year and 11 of IUPUI's 13 goals have come from newcomers as Finnegan is the only returning letterwinner to have a score this year.

IUPUI has been involved in some wild contests of late, beginning with the 5-1 win over Eastern Illinois on Sept. 2. IUPUI's five goals in that game were the program's most in a game since October 2009 and the most against a Division I foe since November 2007. The Jags followed with a bizarre 3-3 draw with Western Illinois on Sept. 4 as the two teams combined to score three goals in the final four minutes, ultimately ending in a draw. Later, IUPUI played Wright State to a 2-2 draw on Saturday (Sept. 10), marking the first time the Jaguars have earned a road result in the series, having gone 0-10 in the previous 10 trips to Dayton.

QUOTABLE
"Before the fact, if you would've told me that you'll go to Wright State and get a 2-2 tie to start conference play with a point on the road, I would be super happy and positive about that," head coach Sid van Druenen said. "I think now that we're there and we got the point, there was more in this game for us, but at the same time, we're super positive with getting the point. I think it's a great start to the (conference) season."

SCOUTING LOYOLA
Loyola is 3-0-2 on the year and a perfect 3-0 at home this season with wins over Bucknell, Bowling Green and DePaul. The Ramblers have outscored opponents by an 8-2 margin on the year and outshoots foes by more than four shots per contest. Billy Hency leads the Loyola attack with three goals and two assists and John Gates has a goal and a team-high three assists. In goal, Simon Jillson has started all five contests, yielding just two scores for a 0.41 goals against average and .833 save percentage with three shutouts.

SERIES HISTORY
IUPUI is 1-1-1 all-time against Loyola although the two sides haven't met since September 2004. IUPUI dropped the first-ever meeting between the two teams in the only true road game in the series, falling in Chicago by a 5-1 score. The two teams played to a 0-0 draw in DeKalb, Ill., in 2003 and the Jaguars rolled to a 6-3 win in Bowling Green, Ohio, in 2004.

UP NEXT
IUPUI will host Belmont on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 3:00 p.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium at 3:00 p.m.
