INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will kickoff a two-game homestand this weekend when the Jaguars host Eastern Illinois on Friday night (Sept. 2), followed by a meeting with Western Illinois on Sunday (Sept. 4). Both contests will be free of charge.
The schedule setup is a partnership among EIU, WIU, Purdue Fort Wayne and IUPUI as the two sides will swap opponents between Friday and Sunday.Â
Head coach
Sid van Druenen's squad is seeking a first win of the year after opening with a 2-2 draw with Marian, followed by a 3-1 road loss at Evansville. Offensively,
Logan Finnegan is tops in the Horizon League with eight shot attempts and has one of the team's three goals this season. In addition, junior midfielder
Lukas Hackaa and freshman
Caleb McComas both have scores - their first in an IUPUI uniform. Hackaa scored 10 times in his first two collegiate seasons at Notre Dame (Ohio) College while McComas' score came in his collegiate debut.Â
Defensively,
Lucas Morefield has played all 180 minutes in goal with a 2.50 goals against average and seven saves.
van Druenen has been incredibly reliant on new faces to start the season as more than 60 percent of the team's minutes played this season have come from new faces. Only Finnegan, Morefield and freshman defender
Edgar Correia have played all 180 minutes in the season's first two games. Correia owns one of the team's three assists, as
Josemir Gomez and
Medard Mikobi each have assists also.Â
QUOTABLE
"It was a moment of pride for me and my family. I'm glad I could score my first goal for my team. As a group, we simply just need to commit to the high intensity that Coach van Druenen is emphasizing. This is a team that is learning what it means to be a competitive Division I team," McComas said of his first score at Evansville.Â
SCOUTING EASTERN ILLINOIS
EIU enters this week with a 0-1-1 mark, having lost at Green Bay and earning a 1-1 draw on the road at Xavier.
