JAGUARS CLINCH NO. 1 SEED IN #HLWBB TOURNAMENT

IUPUI defeats Robert Morris on Saturday, 73-40, to earn the #HLWBB regular season title

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women's basketball team defeated Robert Morris, 73-40 on Saturday afternoon, to earn the Horizon League regular season champion title and clinch the No. 1 seed in the #HLWBB tournament. The Jags also celebrated their four seniors Morgan Allen, Taylor Ramey, Macee Williams and Madison Wise.

"I am so proud of our team's resiliency throughout the year, overcoming the forfeits that were placed on our team's shoulders back in November," said head coach Austin Parkinson. "To only lose two actual games during the conference season shows how special this group was all year long."

Rachel McLimore led the Jaguars with 15 points and four assists while Williams followed with 14 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Anna Mortag added 11 points and four rebounds.

The Jags took the early lead in the first quarter 17-6 and never let up taking their largest lead of 45 points in the beginning of the fourth quarter. IUPUI held the Colonials to just 27.9 percent (17-of-61) from the floor and outrebounded Robert Morris 40-34.

"The team was very focused defensively out of the gates and offensively we moved the ball really well," said Parkinson.

Rachel Kent and Natalie Andersen each added six points while Destiny Perkins followed with five points and four rebounds. Graduate students Allen and Wise each totaled four points while Logan Lewis (4 points), Ali Berg (3) and Jacquel Bronaugh (1) each added points off the bench.

The Jags shot 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the floor and 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from behind the arc. They totaled 17 assists, five steals and four blocks.

"We definitely need to enjoy this one today and then it's time to get focused for the tournament come Monday," said Parkinson.

Since IUPUI clinched the No. 1 seed in the #HLWBB tournament, the Jags will host their quarterfinal game at the Jungle on Thursday, March 3rd at 7:00 PM.
