SECOND HALF SPOILS JAGUARS OUTING AT MILWAUKEE ON THURSDAY NIGHT

IUPUI (5-2-6, 1-2-3 HL) yield three goals after the break in a 3-0 defeat

MILWAUKEE - Host Milwaukee scored three goals in just more than a 10-minute span of the second half to break open a scoreless draw as the Panthers rolled past IUPUI, 3-0 at Engelmann Stadium on Thursday night (Oct. 6). Lainey Higgins scored the game-winner in the 60th minute and assisted on the other two scores to pace the Milwaukee attack.

Milwaukee finished with a 24-8 advantage in shot attempts and 8-2 margin in corner kicks. IUPUI freshman Cailynn Junk made a season-high eight saves in her second start of the year in place of sophomore Ashton Kudlo

Junk was tested early and often, but made back-to-back impressive saves on Milwaukee's Haley Johnson in the game's eighth minute, initially denying an angled attempt and then deflecting a second attempt off the bar for a second save. IUPUI (5-2-6, 1-2-3 HL) was unable to muster much in the attack in the opening stanza, getting just two shots and neither on frame.

In the second half, Milwaukee held possession in their end for much of the time before finally going in front in the 60th minute. After a Milwaukee corner kick, the IUPUI defense initially defender the restart but the clearance went out to Higgins, just beyond the 18. Higgins drove a blast through traffic, just inside the left post for the game's first goal.

Less than three minutes later, MKE's Natalie Auble took a Higgins assist and redirected a shot inside the far post for a quick 2-0 lead. The lead grew to 3-0 in the 70th minute when Johnson drove a header home off Higgins' free kick.

IUPUI tried to breakup the shutout with its best look of the night coming from Emma Frey in the 66th minute. Frey got free on the left side and drilled a shot at MKE's Kendall Edwards, who was able to redirect the attempt over the bar. In the closing minutes, Leah Shumate had back-to-back shots on frame from distance that Edwards easily plucked.

Frey, Shumate and Sam Slimak each had a team-high two shot attempts in the defeat.

IUPUI will return home to host Detroit Mercy on Sunday (Oct. 9) at 1:00 p.m. at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
