INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team scored three second half goals and dialed up a league-best tenth shutout as the Jaguars rolled past Robert Morris, 3-0, at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 16). Junior
Emma Antoine tallied a pair of goals in the win and fellow junior
Sam Slimak deposited the game-winner early in the second half. Senior
Maya Lacognato delivered a pair of assists in her final regular season home game.
"I'm proud of how the young ladies responded today," head coach
Chris Johnson said. "I thought we were a little more efficient and a little more effective in the attack in the second half. Defensively,
Maya Turner did a tremendous job of keeping things in front of her and I thought Ashton really commanded her back line.
"This was a really good team win."
IUPUI (8-2-6, 4-2-3 HL) moved its winning streak to three straight behind an offensive attack that rifled off 30 shots, putting 11 on frame. However, IUPUI didn't get on the board until the 53rd minute when a Slimak left-footed drive went off the hands of RMU keeper Morgan Brustman and just over the endline for her third tally of the season. Lacognato setup the score with a short pass before Slimak blazed home the winner.
The Jags continued to push for insurance and were finally able to breathe easier in the 73rd minute when Antoine pushed her first of two goals home.
Emma Manolovic lofted a pass between two RMU backs and Antoine nudged a header just past Brustman for her fourth score of the year.
In the 89th minute, Antoine lit the victory cigar by blasting home an easy finish off a pass from Lacognato. Freshman
Emma Frey sent a long lead pass in behind RMU's high line to Lacognato, who delivered a left-footed cross towards the goal. A sprinting Antoine knocked in the celebratory finish, just moments ahead of the postgame Senior Day processions.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Ashton Kudlo made seven saves and benefited from a team save as part of her fifth clean sheet of the season. Kudlo's best stop of the day came on a Haleigh Finale attempt in the game's ninth minute. After IUPUI dominated the opening minutes with three shots in the opening four minutes, RMU (7-5-4, 1-5-2 HL) flipped possession and began to apply pressure to the IUPUI defense.
After attempting 10 first half shots, RMU was outshot 15-5 in the second half, despite playing with a strong wind at its back. Brustman made seven saves in the loss while Gabriella Lecuona had a team-high four shot attempts off the Colonials' bench.
Slimak paced IUPUI with eight shots, putting four on frame, and Lacognato and Antoine had four each. The Jaguars' 30 shot attempts were easily a season-high, while their nine corner kicks were their second-highest output of the season.
IUPUI will cap the regular season at Youngstown State on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1:00 p.m.
