WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Despite singles wins from
Nate Day,
Sean Bailey and
Kamil Kozerski, the IUPUI men's tennis team fell to both Chicago State (5-2) and Purdue (6-1) on Sunday. The Jags are now 0-5 to start the spring season.
The Jags faced Chicago State to start the doubleheader off on Sunday. The Cougars earned the doubles point but freshman Kozerski earned a big No. 4 singles win over Chicago State's Max Sandoval, 6-3, 6-2, to keep the Jags in the match. Senior Bailey also won the No. 3 singles match to give IUPUI their second point of the match. Chicago State would go on to win the No. 1 and No. 6 singles matches to seal the win over the Jaguars, 5-2.
Later in the day, IUPUI faced their third Big Ten team of the season, Purdue. Freshman
Nate Day earned a huge win over Purdue's Julen Morgan in the No. 6 singles spot to hand the Jaguars their lone point in the match (4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (3)). The Boilermakers went on to win 6-1.
IUPUI returns to Indy to take on the UIndy Greyhounds at UIndy on Wednesday (Feb. 2) at 6:00 PM.
