INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI swimming and diving teams are set to host three events this weekend, kicking it off with a diving dual meet against Ball State on Thursday (Jan. 20) at 2:00 p.m., followed by women's swimming on Friday (Jan. 21) vs. Butler and Indiana State at 2:00 p.m. The Jags will wrap up the weekend with men's and women's swimming on Saturday (Jan. 22) against Valparaiso at noon when they celebrate senior day.
The Jags will finally get back in the pool after having their last meet cancelled due to Covid-19 protocol. The last time IUPUI competed was at the House of Champions on Nov. 20 where multiple athletes set personal and school records.
The IUPUI dive team will start the weekend off facing Ball State on Thursday. Freshman
Alex Scott will lead the charge in platform diving after coming off a first-place finish in the men's platform diving during the House of Champions. Sophomore
Sadie Smith leads the women's team with top finishes during the House of Champions, placing fourth in the women's 1-meter dive and second place in the 3-meter dive.
On Friday, the women's team with jump back into the pool to face Butler and Indiana State. The Jags defeated Butler, 160-70, to kick off the season on Sept. 26. and faced them again during the House of Champions. IUPUI last faced Indiana State in 2017 when they defeated the Sycamores 158-128. Standout freshman,
Emmaleigh Zietlow will be tough to beat in the 500 and 1650 free after posting top times in the Horizon League during the House of Champions with a time of 4:54.00 in the 500 and 17:07.57 in the 1650.
Lauren Thompson also ranks towards the top in the Horizon League with a time of 55.67 in the 100 backstroke and 2:00.87 in the 200 back. The women's team looks to improve their record to 6-3 before heading into the Saturday session against Valparaiso.
Both the men's and women's team will race against Valparaiso on Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m. The Jags last faced Valpo on Sept. 26 when the women's team defeated the Beacons, 177-44, while the men's team won, 196-40. Freshman
Logan Kelly is ready to get back into the pool after setting top times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke during the House of Champions. He posted a time of 53.25 in the 100 and 1:57.49 in the 200.
IUPUI will also recognize their seniors on Saturday. Those seniors include
