INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team will face a gauntlet this week as the Jaguars hit the road to face Butler (Sept. 2) and Dayton (Sept. 5) in non-conference matches. Thursday's match at Butler will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday's meeting at Dayton will kick at 1:00 p.m..
IUPUI (1-2) is coming off a 4-0 loss at Western Michigan, despite outshooting the Broncos 14-9 and earning a 6-3 edge on corner kicks. However, despite the sustained attacking pressure, IUPUI was unable to solve the WMU goalkeeper and was blanked for the first time on the year. The final two goals in the 4-0 loss came on penalty kicks as the Jaguars yielded a pair in the second period.
Renae Blevins,
Elizabeth Bueckers and
Autumn Weeks led the IUPUI attack with three shots each with Blevins having a team-high two on target.
QUOTABLE
"I thought we had some really good periods in the second half where we controlled the game and created quality opportunities. However, our defending as an entire team has to improve so we aren't giving up some of the goals we have been giving up in our games so far," head coach
Chris Johnson said.
