JAGUARS TO FACE WESTERN MICHIGAN ON SUNDAY

IUPUI (1-1) to face Broncos at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 29)

8/27/2021 10:15:00 AM

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The IUPUI women's soccer team will continue its non-conference slate on Sunday (Aug. 29) when the Jaguars head north to face Western Michigan at 1:00 p.m.. Live video and live stats will be available at kickoff.

IUPUI (1-1) is coming off an emphatic 4-0 win over Marian University on Monday night as four different Jaguars got in on the scoring act. Junior Maya Lacognato tallied the game-winner and Elizabeth Bueckers, Ciena Miller and Sam Slimak also scratched. Bueckers, Slimak, Leah Shumate and Maya Turner earned assists and the duo of AP Woodall and Emily McGrath combined on the shutout in goal. The Jaguars enjoyed a 25-8 shot advantage and 6-1 margin on corner kicks while holding possession for almost 60 percent of the contest.

Bueckers has a team-high four goals in the Jaguars' first two games and Slimak has a goal and two assists to start the year. Lacognato has a goal and an assist in the season's early going. Sophomore Alex Stocker has played a team-high 157 minutes in the defensive third and freshman Hannah Roberson is just off her pace at 156. Junior Autumn Weeks has played 150 minutes in the IUPUI midfield.

Offensively, head coach Chris Johnson has to be pleased with his team's early season production as the seven goals through two games is the most in program history, easily surpassing the prior mark of four that occurred in 2002, 2005 and 2015. Bueckers alone has hit for four already, including tallying twice from the penalty spot.

In goal, Woodall has a 2.61 goals against average and four saves in her two starts.

QUOTABLE
"I liked the energy the entire night. The kids off the bench, the people who started the game - it was good energy the entire time. I think we had a little bit of nerves in the beginning and weren't quite connecting like we needed to, but as we got kind of settled in to what we wanted to do, I thought we really kind of connected passes out there and created some opportunities. Overall, I'm very pleased with what I saw tonight. Getting a shutout is great too," head coach Chris Johnson said following his team's win over Marian.

WPSL HONORS
Junior Autumn Weeks was recently honored for her work in the Women's Premier Soccer League over the summer, being named among seven Defensive Players of the Year in the Central Region for her play with the Chicago Red Stars.
