INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer will close its 2021 campaign on Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 3) when the Jaguars host Robert Morris at 2:00 p.m. at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium. Admission will be FREE of charge for Wednesday's contest.
IUPUI (3-11-1, 2-7 HL) has been relegated to the role of spoiler for the season's final contest as RMU still has a chance of making the six-team Horizon League Tournament while the Jaguars were officially eliminated recently. Head coach Brian Barnett's team has dropped three straight 1-0 outcomes and has yielded just three goals in the season's last four games. However, goals have been at a premium all season long as the Jaguars have yet to score multiple goals in a regular season contest this year. IUPUI tallied twice in the exhibition opener as both
Riley Shives and
Caleb Hussain netted scores against Dayton, but the faucet has run dry during the regular season. The Jags have scored seven goals, paced by sophomore
Logan Finnegan's three scores and both
Tylin Broaders and
Kirezi Freddy have a team-high two assists each. Two of Finnegan's three goals have been game-winners while
Rayan Choukri also has a game-winner.
Defensively, the Jaguars have been fairly stout, authoring four shutouts.
Lucas Morefield, who was named to the league's All-Academic Team on Tuesday, has started 12 of the team's 15 games with a 1.51 goals against average and three clean sheets. He has a .698 save percentage and totaled 44 stops overall.
A number of Jags will suit up for a final time on Wednesday, keyed by defenders
Tommy Patacca,
Corey Goede,
Gianni Catenacci and
Ethan Diedel. That quartet has started virtually every game this season, as has fifth-year senior midfielder
Cameron Haegele in the midfield. Patacca leads the team in minutes (1,361) and is followed closely by Goede (1,354) and Catenacci (1,276).
