INDIANAPOLIS -
IUPUI Director of Athletics
Dr. Roderick Perry announced a leadership change for the men's soccer program as head coach
Brian Barnett's contract will not be renewed beyond the 2021 season. The Jaguars went 3-12-1 and 2-8 in Horizon League play this fall.
"We appreciate all that Brian has done for the IUPUI program and the Indianapolis community," Perry said. "We thank him for his tireless work with our young men and certainly wish him the very best in the future."
Barnett took over the IUPUI program just prior to the 2016 campaign and has since compiled a 14-68-11 (.210) overall record. His 2018 squad advanced to the semifinals of the Horizon League Tournament before falling to eventual league champion UIC on penalty kicks.
"Our standard for success is to be competing for Horizon League Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances and at this point, we believe a change in leadership is necessary to reach those goals," Perry said. "We're going to continue to support our student-athletes and provide them the resources to be successful in the classroom and in training during the transition period."
Assistant coach
John Schwien will serve as the primary point of contact for soccer related matters during the transition period and a national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
