JAGUARS FALL TO #HLWSOC LEADER MILWAUKEE AT CARROLL

IUPUI tripped up by Panthers by a 2-0 score on Thursday night (Oct. 7)

INDIANAPOLIS - Milwaukee's Taylor Hattori had a goal and an assist and IUPUI was unable to solve the Panthers' defense as the Jaguars dropped a home contest on Thursday night (Oct. 7), 2-0. IUPUI was able to find some occasional space against the Panthers, but was ultimately outshot 22-10 and 12-3 on frame in the loss.

Senior goalkeeper AP Woodall was brilliant in making 10 stops in net, but yielded a pair of scores to the potent Milwaukee attack.

IUPUI (2-10-1, 1-5 HL) just missed striking first blood in the fourth minute when she made a run up the right side and had Milwaukee's Elaina LaMacchia beaten, but had her shot ring off the far post and back in play. Paige Waskom collected the rebound, but had her shot easily stopped by LaMacchia.

"I thought that there were some moments in the first half where we created some good opportunities up there. We executed our gameplan of what we're trying to do where we'd put them in pressure where they'd turn the ball over in their half of the field and just couldn't quite capitalize like we wanted to," head coach Chris Johnson said. "I liked their energy and effort in the first half and I thought in the second half we didn't come out the way we needed to, to kind of jump on top of getting even and getting a goal.

"I think we've got a lot of kids who are still learning and learning what effort level it takes to be successful and on top of the conference. (Milwaukee) is a team that does it 24-7 when you play them and we're still trying to figure that out a little bit."

Milwaukee (11-1, 6-0 HL) tallied the game's first goal in the 26th minute when Hattori drove a shot from just inside the penalty area past Woodall. Maggie Woods freed Hattori who angled past a defender before drilling the go-ahead goal. Hattori later helped setup Kat Van Booven's insurance goal in the 56th minute.

After threatening to score in the first half, the IUPUI attack was less pungent in the second half, getting just four shot attempts and none on target. Maya Lacognato had a team-high three shot attempts and Waskom had two, both before intermission. Senior Renae Blevins had one of IUPUI's best looks of the second half, but had it knocked down by a Milwaukee defender before it got to goal.

At the other end, Woodall did well to keep the Jaguars in the game, stacking 10 saves for her fourth double-digit effort of the season. Many of her stops came from point blank range to help fend off the league's top attack.

Seven different Milwaukee players had multiple shot attempts, paced by Mackenzie Schill's five attempts.

The win kept Milwaukee atop the Horizon League standings at a perfect 6-0 while IUPUI is left hovering near the bottom at 1-5 with five matches remaining.

IUPUI will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 10 when the Jaguars head north to face Detroit Mercy at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
