JAGUARS FALL ON THE ROAD ON A SECOND HALF PK

IUPUI drops road match at Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday (Oct. 30)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IUPUI men's soccer team dropped a soggy 1-0 road match at Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday (Oct. 30), played at nearby Indiana Tech. The host Mastodons got the game's only offense in the game's 67th minute on an Ali Nasser penalty kick.

Purdue Fort Wayne (5-8-2, 3-5-1 HL) outshot the Jaguars by a 17-7 margin and had seven corner kicks to IUPUI's three and got their offense from the spot. After an IUPUI defender was called for a foul inside the 18-yard box after a long throw-in, Nasser made it stand with his third score of the year.

"I was really pleased with our group's effort at the start of the game and in response to conceding the penalty," head coach Brian Barnett said. "Unfortunately, as a general rule over the course of the game, we failed to be truly dangerous in the final third. That's really been the frustration this whole season.

"That said, our team's effort to work for each other and compete to finish cannot be questioned and I am proud of our student-athletes."

The Mastodons controlled pace and possession for much of the first half but was unable to get anything past Lucas Morefield. PFW had three corner kicks in a three minute span, but were only able to get one shot attempt off the restart opportunities.

IUPUI's lone shot on goal in the opening stanza came in the 18th minute when Logan Finnegan tested Danny Salazar from in close.

After Nasser's score in the 67th minute, IUPUI had just one shot on frame in the final 30 minutes as Carson Shrader attempted a low drive from the right side. Tommy Patacca also had a shot on target early in the second half.

Morefield finished with three saves in the loss while Finnegan had a team-high two shot attempts. Seth Mahlmeister had a team-high four shot attempts for the hosts.

IUPUI will cap the regular season on Wednesday (Nov. 2) when the Jaguars host Robert Morris at 2:00 p.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
