MEN'S SOCCER TO FACE PURUDE FORT WAYNE ON SATURDAY

IUPUI (3-8-1, 2-5 HL) to host Eastern Illinois and Oakland this week

10/29/2021 11:37:00 AM

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IUPUI men's soccer team will hit the road for one final time in the regular season to face in-state foe Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday (Oct. 30) at 1:00 p.m. at Hefner Soccer Complex. Both teams are near the bottom of the league table with IUPUI having six points in the standings and the Mastodons having seven thus far. As it currently stands, there's a three-way tie for the final three spots in the upcoming six-team Horizon League Tournament as Detroit Mercy, UIC and Northern Kentucky are all knotted at 12 points.

The Jaguars have been strong defensively of late, yielding just two goals in the team's last three games, including stopping a penalty kick in a 1-0 loss to the league's top scoring team, Oakland. The Jags opened the three game stretch with a 1-0 win at Green Bay behind Logan Finnegan's third goal of the year, setup by a Kirezi Freddy assist. Redshirt sophomore Lucas Morefield collected a shutout in that contest, his third on the season, and enters this weekend with a 1.56 goals against average. He's started 11 of the team's 14 matches in goal while Quinn McCallion has made three starts and amassed a 1.89 GAA and 10 stops.

Finnegan has a team-high three goals and 23 shot attempts while Freddy and Tylin Broaders have a team-high two assists. Graduate defender Tommy Patacca has fired off 20 shots from his defensive post and leads the team with 1,271 minutes played. Senior Corey Goede is second on the squad with 1,264 minutes played as the defensive core of Patacca, Goede, Gianni Catenacci and Ethan Diedel has started virtually every match together in the back third.
