JAGUARS COLLECT SOLID ROAD WIN AT GREEN BAY, 1-0

Sophomore Logan Finnegan nets his third score of the year in the victory

GREEN BAY, Wisc. - The IUPUI men's soccer team's defense put up a dominating effort and sophomore Logan Finnegan provided the day's only offense as the Jaguars went on the road and picked off Green Bay, 1-0. The Jaguars yielded just 10 shots and only three on frame while Finnegan netted his third score of the season in the 32nd minute for the winner.

IUPUI (3-8-1, 2-5 HL) was calm and collected in the defensive third, allowing four shots in the opening 14 minutes and just six the rest of the way. Green Bay's looks came early in the second half, playing into the face of a stiff wind. Tim Stiller tested Morefield with a hard shot in the 49th minute and senior Tommy Patacca came up with a key redirect of a Michael McDougall attempt in the 54th minute, steering it off target. In the 61st minute, Green Bay's Assibey Rhule had time and space, but rifled a shot high of target.

IUPUI's offense came in the 32nd minute when Kirezi Freddy had possession on the right side and delivered a short cross to the near post. Finnegan climbed the ladder and redirected a header past Green Bay keeper Jamison Yoder.

"It was a great team. It was amazing for us to play our style and to end this losing streak," Finnegan said. "Starting on a good note as we play our last few games is crucial and so good for us.

"(Freddy) is a dangerous man."

IUPUI threatened to add insurance early in the second half as Tylin Broaders had a pair of scoring opportunities. On the first, he had a header go just over the bar in the game's 57th minute. In the 58th minute, he got free on the right side, but had his shot fly well wide of target from 12 yards out.

Like Green Bay (1-9-3, 0-6-1 HL), IUPUI attempted just 10 shots and put two on frame. Playing much of the match with a one goal lead, the Jaguars were largely content to have their back line and defensive midfielders control possession and play keepaway from the Phoenix.

Morefield registered three stops in his third shutout of the season while Broaders and Mandela Cybahiro paced the attack with two shots each. McDougall led all players with three shot attempts.

"(The win) means a lot to the boys right now. This team is happy to snap the (losing) streak and earn three points," Morefield said. "However, I can tell that everyone is hungry and already looking forward to the next opportunity to contend for a playoff spot."

IUPUI will return home to kickoff a stretch of two straight road matches, beginning on Wednesday (Oct. 20) when the Jaguars host Eastern Illinois at 4:00 p.m. at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
