INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball program announced a sixth signee for the 2020-2021 season with the addition of Nate McClure. McClure, a 6-foot-4 guard, teamed with fellow IUPUI signee Dimitri Georgiadis this past season at State Fair (Mo.) Community College and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. He was one of five Division I signees on State Fair's 2019-2020 team, helping them to a 16-14 mark and an appearance in the Region 16 Tournament Semifinal Round last season.
"Nate's a flat out shot maker," head coach
Byron Rimm II said. "He has a reputation of being a knockdown shooter, but he's more than that. I think he can create his own shot, score in the midrange and make plays for his teammates with his vision. He brings a ton of maturity and character to our program.Â
"He's a hard worker and a really good kid. He's going to come in and compete with some of the other guys we have coming in and coming back and be in the mix for some playing time."
McClure averaged 4.6 points and 1.6 assists per game this past season while connecting on 36.4 percent from three-point range. He ranked third on the team with 28 made treys, which included nine games in which he made more than one triple. He tallied a season-high 16 points on Jan. 7 against Graceland University JV and had 15 points on Dec. 3 against Next Level Prep. He had eight points, 12 rebounds and six assists off the bench in a win over Central Methodist JV and had a game of five points, seven boards and seven assists in a win over Iowa Western on Nov. 8.Â
McClure began his career at Texas State, redshirting the 2018-2019 season as the Bobcats went 24-10 and a spot in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.Â
A native of Tomball, Texas, McClure was a two-time TAPPS 6A All-State honoree at Concordia Lutheran, earning first team all state honors as a senior. His final season, he averaged 14.0 points per game and helped Concordia Lutheran to a 43-1 record and the 2017-18 TAPPS 6A state title. His junior year, Concordia Lutheran advanced to the state semifinals as he was named to the All-Tournament Team. Â
McClure is the Jaguars' sixth new addition for next season, joining true freshman Sadaidriene "DayDay" Hall and junior college transfers Jonah Carrasco, Dimitri Georgiadis, Bobby Harvey and Azariah Seay.Â
