INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI head basketball coach Byron Rimm II continued to build his roster for the upcoming season on Friday (June 26) with the signing of 6-foot-9 forward Jonah Carrasco from Otero (Colo.) College. Carrasco will be immediately eligible and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

"Jonah is really going to help us. He's a team captain and a true leader and just brings more maturity to our team," Rimm said. "He's a big, strong, athletic kid who plays above the rim. He plays really hard and runs the floor well for a big guy. He can step out a little and make shots, so he's going to help us in terms of doing a lot of things to help us win games."

Carrasco started all 32 games for a strong Otero team last season as the Rattlers went 25-7 overall. He averaged 5.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting better than 59 percent from the floor and leading the team with 28 blocked shots. He scored in double-digits on seven different occasions and had his lone double-double of the season with 12 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots versus Northern New Mexico on Nov. 8. He spent his freshman campaign at Navarro (Texas) College before transferring to Otero for his sophomore campaign.

Carrasco starred at Wichita North (Kan.) High School before playing a postgraduate season at Next Level Prep. He chose to sign with the Jaguars over interest from Radford, Texas-Arlington and Texas Rio, among others.

He becomes IUPUI's fourth new addition for next season, joining true freshman Sadaidriene "DayDay" Hall and junior college transfers Bobby Harvey and Azariah Seay.
