SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Summit League announced on Thursday (June 11) that former IUPUI standouts George Hill (men's basketball) and Chen Ni (women's diving) are part of the league's five-member Hall of Fame Class of 2020. Hill and Ni are IUPUI's first two inductees into The Summit's Hall of Fame.
They are joined by Pete Hovland (Oakland), Amy (Anderson) Olson (North Dakota State) and Jack Whitt (Oral Roberts) in this year's induction class.
IUPUI was a member of The Summit League from 1998 through 2017 before joining the Horizon League just prior to the 2017-2018 campaign.
Hill (2004-2008) was The Summit League Player of the Year in 2007-08 after averaging 21.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while leading the Jaguars to a 26-7 record. He was a six-time league Player of the Week and two-time first team all-league honoree after being voted to the All-Newcomer Team as a freshman. He was twice named to The Summit League's All-Tournament Team and helped the Jags to a league runner-up finish his junior year. He closed his IUPUI career ranked fourth on the program's all-time scoring list (1,619 points), while also ranking among the program's top 10 in rebounds, assists, free throws made, field goals made and steals. The Indianapolis-native later declared for early entry into the NBA Draft and became just the second player in league history to be drafted in the first round.
Now a 12-year NBA veteran, Hill has amassed over 8,600 points, 2,400 rebounds, 2,400 assists and nearly 1,000 threes in his professional career. This season, he leads NBA players as a 48 percent shooter from three-point range as a key reserve for the Milwaukee Bucks. Hill's teams have been in the NBA Playoffs in all but one of his professional campaigns as he's averaged 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for his career in the postseason.
Hill becomes the league's sixth men's basketball inductee, joining Tony Bennett, Bryce Drew, Dr. Homer Drew, Kevin Duckworth and Caleb Green.
Chen (2008-12) was a two-time NCAA individual champion for the Jaguars, winning the platform diving competition in both 2010 and 2012. She was a three-time All-American and was the first female in Summit League history to earn an individual NCAA title in any sport. She was a three-time league Diver of the Year, collecting the award in 2009, 2010 and 2012 and also earned Diving Championship MVP her final season.
She collected four individual league titles and was named the league's Athlete of the Week five times in her career. She still holds the league championship record for highest point total in a 3-meter routine, having scored 311.60 points at the 2010 championships.
Chen also represented IUPUI on a national stage, qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2012.
She is the first-ever women's swimming and diving inductee in the league's hall of fame.
