JAGUARS BLITZED AT HORIZON LEAGUE LEADER WRIGHT STATE, 106-66

Marcus Burk leads the Jaguars with 19 points in the loss

DAYTON, Ohio - The IUPUI basketball team ran into a buzzsaw on Sunday (Feb. 16) as the Jaguars were outgunned by league leader Wright State, 106-66. Wright State, which received votes in the polls this week, shot a blazing 58.1 percent from the floor and 15-of-29 from three-point range while putting six players in double-digits.

James Manns led Wright State with 21 points off the bench, including five treys, and Loudon Love added 18 points and eight rebounds in just 23 minutes of work. Bill Wampler tossed in 17, primarily from long distance.

Junior Marcus Burk led the Jaguars with 19 points and was joined on double-digits by Jaylen Minnett, who tallied 18 off the bench on six treys. After a putrid start, the Jaguars' attack never got going as IUPUI missed from seemingly every distance and angle to start the game. IUPUI (6-22, 2-13 HL) misconnected on its first 12 field goal attempts of the game and didn't get on the board until the 13:32 mark when Minnett swished a long three to stop WSU's 16-0 run to open play.

The Wright State (23-5, 13-2 HL) lead was 29-5 when Minnett dialed in his second trey of the game and eventually swelled to 60-23 by halftime. The Raiders shot 65 percent in the opening half and outrebounded IUPUI 28-14 in the opening 20 minutes. The hosts also made 13-of-18 free throw attempts while the Jaguars were just 1-of-4 before the break.

Things didn't get much better for the Jaguars after the break as Wright State continued to pour it on, shooting 52 percent overall and 8-of-16 from three-point range. IUPUI warmed to 44 percent after the break to close the game at 35 percent overall and 9-of-24 (37.5 percent) from three.

Burk has harassed into 6-of-22 shooting after going 1-of-11 in the first half and Minnett closed at 6-of-20 overall. Goss was an efficient 4-of-6 to close with eight points and seven boards and Jakoby Kemp took advantage of his first start of the season with eight points in 12 minutes. Grant Weatherford finished with seven points, six rebounds and three assists off the bench.

IUPUI reserves scored a season-high 29 points, fueled largely by Minnett and Weatherford coming off the bench as Kemp and Mike DePersia were awarded starts.

The loss dropped IUPUI to 3-15 all-time against WSU as the Raiders defeated the Jaguars for a fifth straight time.

IUPUI will hit the road for its final away contest of the season next Saturday (Feb. 22) when the Jaguars trek to Chicago to face UIC at 4:12 p.m. on ESPN+.
