MEN'S BASKETBALL TO FACE CHICAGO STATE, EVANSVILLE IN NON-LEAGUE GAMES

Jaguars to play at Chicago State (Nov. 25) and Evansville (Dec. 6) in non-conference games

11/17/2020 3:45:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball program announced two non-conference games on Tuesday (Nov. 17) as the Jaguars will have early season road trips to Chicago State (Nov. 25) and Evansville (Dec. 6) as part of the early season slate. The Jaguars will continue to seek opportunities to add games prior to the start of Horizon League play on Dec. 19.

Head coach Byron Rimm II's squad was recently picked to finish 12th in the Horizon League by the league's coaches, media and sports information personnel, but boasts an impressive core of returners keyed by seniors Marcus Burk, Elyjah Goss and Jaylen Minnett. Burk was an all-league performer last season and was picked to the preseason first team after averaging 21.3 points per game and shooting a league-best 38.6 percent from three-point range. The Indianapolis-native averaged 23.3 points per game in league play while shooting 44 percent from the floor.

Goss, a 6-foot-7 forward, ranked among the nation's top rebounders last season at 11.5 caroms per game on way to being voted to the five-man All-Defensive Team. Goss set IUPUI single-game (21) and single-season (369) rebounding records and is primed to take over as the program's career leader this season. He enters his senior season fifth on the program's all-time list and just 98 boards shy of Don Carlisle's all-time record. Minnett has already etched his name in the IUPUI record books, having made a program best 244 career threes. The Terre Haute-native connected on 115 threes last season and tallied 16.6 points per game to go along with 3.4 assists per contest.

Other returners include Isaiah Williams (8.0 ppg, 4.4 rpg), Mike DePersia (2.6 ppg, 2.7 apg) and Sawyer Stoltz (10 appearances). The group of newcomers is headlined by guards Bobby Harvey and Azariah Seay and 7-foot center Acton Shirley. All total, Rimm welcomed eight junior college transfers and a true freshman to makeup his nine-man class.

The two opponents are both familiar foes to the Jaguars as IUPUI is 13-12 all-time against Chicago State and 0-4 all-time against Evansville. IUPUI and CSU were league opponents from 1999-2006 and the Jaguars have won the three most recent contests in the series. The Jaguars will seek to avenge a 70-64 home loss to the Purple Aces from last season and are 0-2 against UE in games played in Evansville.

Additional games and broadcast information will be announced at a later date. No fans will be allowed to attend home games at Indiana Farmers Coliseum through the end of the calendar year and future decisions impacting attendance later in the season will be announced at a later date.
