Peoria, Ill. — The IUPUI women's tennis team earned two singles wins and a doubles win, but was eventually topped by the Bradley Braves 5-2.
Christina Stankovic and Inés Rivera teamed up at No. 3 doubles to give the Jaguars a 6-4 win, but it wasn't enough to get the doubles point with a 6-3 loss at No. 2 and a 6-2 loss at No. 1.
Stankovic also picked up a win by default at No. 3 singles, along with Gabrielle Ochalik posting her first singles win for the Jags at No. 2 singles, 7-6(6), 2-6, 10-6.
"It was a challenging match that really tested my focus and my patience," Ochalik said. "I tried to extend the points and test the girl until she got impatient and her nerves got the best of her."
Sophomore Sarah Lounsbury was able to grab a set at No. 4 singles, but eventually fell 6-1 in the second set and 6-2 in the third set.
Junior Krystal Grubb lost 6-2 6-2 at No. 1 singles, freshman Marta Krakowski fell at No. 5 singles 6-2 6-1, and Diya Matta was edged in a close 6-4 6-4 matchup at No. 6.
"This was our second win in a row at No. 3 doubles against a good team… I'm very encouraged by that," said head coach Jason Suscha. "At the top two doubles spots, we need to clean up some details to get over the hump. As for singles, we as a group need to continue to gauge our opponents' strengths and weaknesses and play accordingly."
The Jaguars will have a quick turnaround with their next match Saturday morning (Jan. 24) in Peoria, Ill. at 10 a.m. ET against Murray State.
