MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Freshman Maya Lacognato netted an equalizer early in the second half for the IUPUI women's soccer team on Sunday (Sept. 8), but the Jaguars yielded goals in each half in falling to Central Michigan, 2-1.

CMU's Alina Miagkova tallied the game-winner in the 60th minute off a Marle Bringard assist.

IUPUI (3-2-1) had a modest two-game winning streak snapped while Central Michigan (2-0-2) remained undefeated to start the season.

"I thought we played well and created enough decent opportunities, but weren't very efficient with them," head coach Chris Johnson said. "We need to be much more efficient with our chance because we may only get seven or eight a game."

CMU went on top in the 32nd minute when the host Chippewas were awarded a penalty kick as Bringard was taken down in a 2-v-2 opportunity. Devyn Brough converted the opportunity, getting a shot past redshirt freshman AP Woodall for the rookie's first goal allowed in more than 276 minutes to start the year.

The Chips took a 1-0 lead into halftime before the Jags got even in the 55th minute. After a quick throw-in, Lacognato got loose and turned the corner against her defender before sliding a shot just inside the far post for her second score of the season.

Later in the half, Lacognato thought she had drawn a penalty kick of her own when she was pulled down inside the penalty box, working away from the CMU goal. However, no call was made and play resumed.

Miagkova netted the winner just more than four minutes after Lacognato's equalizer.

CMU finished with a 16-9 shot advantage, while IUPUI finished with a 5-4 edge on corner kicks. Lacognato had a team-high three shots while Valentine Pursey and Renae Blevins had two shots each.

Senior goalkeeper Sophia Lipka was saddled with the loss as she yielded the winner against two saves. Woodall made two first half saves as the IUPUI goalkeeping duo split halves for the second consecutive match.

IUPUI will return to action on Friday night (Sept. 13) when the Jaguars host Belmont at 7:00 p.m. at Carroll Stadium. That match will be seen on ESPN+ as Scott Agness (pxp) is on the call.
