YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – IUPUI picked up the doubles point and
Ethan Mardanus-Budiono earned a win in singles play but the Jaguars finished the regular season with a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Youngstown State Penguins on Saturday (April 20).
IUPUI began the match with the Penguins losing the No. 1 doubles match 6-2. Mardanus-Budiono and
Sean Bailey teamed together for a 6-3 win in the No. 3 match to even up doubles play. With the first point on the line,
Bradley Luetschwager and
Kyle Whittaker earned a 7-5 victory at No. 2 to give the Jags the point.
All six singles matches were decided in straight-sets and unfortunately for the Jaguars, five of the six matches went in Youngstown State's favor. It began with a 7-5, 6-0 win over
Colton Morehart at No. 3 and the Penguins took their first lead in the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Luetschwager at No. 6.
After a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5 over
Eric Hollingsworth, the Penguins were one win away from taking the match. In the No. 2 singles match, Bailey fell in the first set in a tie break 7-6 (7-1) and the Penguins closed out the match taking set two 6-4.
The lone singles point came in the form of a 7-5, 6-4 win by Mardanus-Budiono in the No. 4 match and
Alex Jochim lost the No. 1 match 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) to end the night.

IUPUI will be the No. 4 seed in the Horizon League Tournament with a 3-3 conference mark and will take on No. 5 seed Green Bay in the first round on Friday (April 26). The match will begin at 11 a.m. and the tournament takes place at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind. All matches of the championship will be streamed on ESPN+.
