HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Senior Katelyn Murphy made the most of her final league championship, running her way to a first team all-league award in leading the Jaguars to a fifth-place finish on Saturday (Nov. 2).

Murphy went 50 seconds under the previous school record, finishing the 6K race in a time of 20:29.8 - 78 seconds faster than her prior best. Murphy, who was also a first team finisher in 2017, continued an already banner cross country season that saw her break the program's 5K record last month.

Sophomore Morgan Fleming ran to a second straight second team all-league berth, placing 13th overall in a time of 21:11.6. Junior Janine Orvis just missed an all-league spot by placing 18th overall in a time of 21:21.2.

Oakland captured the team title, edging second-place Youngstown State by nine points. OU's Maggie Schneider took the individual tape in a time of 19:45.1.

Murphy was positioned well throughout the race as the leaders went out hard and she settled into a rhythm in the No. 5 spot from the opening 1,000 meters. Behind her, Fleming and Orvis were both in among deeper packs while beyond that, it was largely freshmen for the Jaguars. Claire Mehling and Ashton Chase rounded out the scoring five, placing in 29th and 38th, respectively. Mehling crossed in a time of 21:56.7 and Chase clocked a time of 22:16.6.

Paige Boatright was 49th at 22:38.9 and Jean Carson crossed at 22:42.6 in 52nd overall.

However, the story was at the top of the Jaguars' lineup where Murphy became just the second runner in IUPUI history to earn multiple first team all-league finishes, joining Hall of Famer Lyndsey Emerson, who was a four-time first honoree from 2000-2003.

She and the Jaguars will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 15, when the Jaguars compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Verona, Wisc.
