INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team scored three times in a nine-minute span in the opening 19 minutes and never looked back as the Jaguars rolled to a 3-2 victory over Green Bay in their regular season finale at Carroll Stadium on Friday (Nov. 1). The Jaguars built the quick lead and ultimately had to stave off the hard charging Phoenix down the stretch to help clench at least a No. 3 seed and home match in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament.

IUPUI (12-6-1, 6-3 HL) remain in play for the No. 2 seed and a first round bye in the upcoming league tournament, contingent upon the remainder of Friday's outcomes.

"I thought we came out strong in the attack and really did well to create and finish some opportunities in the early going," head coach Chris Johnson said. "We had three really nice goals right there at the start, but unfortunately, didn't keep the momentum going and kind of let them back in the match.

"All in all, I'm proud of what we accomplished today and how we've put ourselves in a position to host a game, or get a bye in the tournament. That's a testament to our season and the hard work the young ladies have put in."

Freshman Autumn Weeks opened the scoring by toe poking a shot into an open net off a slick cross from Emma Chambers. Chambers, who was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team earlier in the day, worked up the left side after a long diagonal pass from Jillian Steinbrink and slid a centering pass to Weeks, who scored for the third time this season. Just more than three minutes later, Pursey blasted a free kick inside the left post for her team-high eighth score of the year. Elizabeth Bueckers earned the restart by drawing a foul just outside the penalty area, leading to the game's second goal.

In the 19th minute, Miranda Ricks got on the finishing end of a Maya Lacognato pass for her second tally of the season, and ultimately the game-winner.

Green Bay (6-10-1, 0-7-1 HL) retaliated with a score in the 22nd minute when an errant clearance led to Alyssa Barnes playing Caitlyn Hawley into space. Hawley was able to put a shot over the challenge of Sophia Lipka for her fifth score of the season.

The lead remained 3-1 in the Jaguars' favor, despite the Phoenix controlling the run of play for much of the second half. IUPUI's lead was sliced in half in the 81st minute when a counter attack left McKayla Kertscher running virtually unimpeded up the left side. By the time an IUPUI defender got in her way, she slotted a pass to a trailing Marissa Stenschke, who easily slipped a shot past AP Woodall from point blank range.

Stenschke just missed knotting the score in the 83rd minute when she redirected a shot just wide of the far post.

IUPUI had to continue to defend corner kicks and a Green Bay press through the closing minutes, but withstood the challenge to improve to 3-1-1 all-time against the Phoenix.

Green Bay closed with an 18-15 shot advantage and 5-2 disparity on corner kicks. Freshman Maya Turner led the Jaguars' attack with four attempts while both Lipka and Woodall recorded three saves each. Pursey also cleared a Green Bay header off the back line for a team save to contribute to the team total of seven.

Johnson dipped deep into his bench in the season finale, giving 23 individuals playing time. Natalie McNally played a team-high 78 minutes while Steinbrink played 75 in the defensive third.

IUPUI will await the remainder of Friday's results and will either host a home quarterfinals matchup on Monday night (Nov. 4) at Carroll Stadium, or will advance to the semifinals with a first round bye, should Oakland defeat UIC this evening.
