SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The IUPUI duo of
Katelyn Murphy and
Morgan Fleming continued their assault on the Jaguars' record book on Friday (Oct. 4) as the Jaguars participated in the notoriously fast Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational under near ideal conditions at the Warren Golf Course. Murphy broke the program's 5K record by four seconds by crossing in a time of 17:33.52 and Fleming also went under the previous school record, finishing in a time of 17:36.55.
With that duo at the top of the IUPUI lineup, the Jaguars placed 12th of 25 teams in the Gold Division of the meet, finishing with 322 points, tops among the four Horizon League teams in the race. Murphy placed 20th overall of 193 numbers and Fleming was just behind her in 23rd place.
"Today was fun. I got out hard and did my best to stay mentally tough while working side-by-side with Morgan. Morgan pushes me to be great and I'm so thankful to have her as a teammate. We're better together," Murphy said. "A lot of our girls had breakthrough races and we got a glimpse of all the hard training we've been putting in. It was so awesome to see us all click together for this meet.
"Jean in particular finally had her breakthrough moment and I'm so excited to see what's to come for her. We have a dedicated bunch of girls on this team and I'm eager to see what's to come for this Jag pack."
