ROCHESTER, Mich. - The IUPUI women's soccer team yielded a late goal on a penalty kick opportunity as the Jaguars dropped a 1-0 decision on the road at Oakland University on Saturday (Oct. 12). It marked the first time this season the Jaguars have lost back-to-back games.

"We didn't play great, but we created some opportunities that we should have capitalized on and didn't," head coach Chris Johnson said.

The Jaguars were whistled for an astonishing 16 fouls to Oakland's two, with the late penalty kick ultimately resulting in the winner.

IUPUI (9-5-2, 3-2 HL) committed the decisive foul in the 85th minute, resulting in a Natalie Abbate penalty kick opportunity. However, senior goalkeeper Sophia Lipka got an initial save, but let in a rebound attempt from Ashley Postma, giving both Abbate and Sami Lopez assists.

IUPUI struggled to build much against Oakland (5-5-2, 3-1-1 HL) offensively as the Jaguars were outshot 12-6 overall and 8-2 on frame for the day.

Junior back Natalie McNally nearly got on the scoring end of a Miranda Ricks corner kick in the game's tenth minute, only to see OU's Jaimie Leas make the save. Late in the half, both Renae Blevins and Valentine Pursey had attempts fly high of target.

Pursey finished with a team-high three shot attempts while Lipka made seven saves in the loss. Leas made two saves for the Golden Grizzlies. Lipka lowered her personal goals against average to 1.11 for the season.

IUPUI will return home to host Cleveland State next Saturday (Oct. 19) at 1:00 p.m. at Carroll Stadium for Senior Day. The Jaguars will honor the senior quartet of Chambers, Denny, Lipka and Sterr following Saturday's match.
