KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2017-18 NABC Honors Court on Tuesday (July 17), recognizing those men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season. IUPUI was represented by veterans Aaron Brennan and D.J. McCall for the second straight year.

The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete be a junior or senior and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2017-18 academic year. In addition, the individual must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution and be a member of an institution with an NABC member coach.

Brennan, who earned his degree in Organization & Leadership Supervision, collected the award for the second consecutive year. The 6-foot-6 forward recently signed to play overseas after coming off a season in which he averaged 12.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He closed his career shooting 47 percent from the floor and 38 percent from three-point range, while falling just short of 1,000 career points with 957 to his credit. He started all 30 games his senior campaign and was voted to the five-man Academic All-Horizon League team by the league's faculty athletic representatives. He scored in double-digits 36 times in his college career, including a career-high 25 points on two occasions.

McCall, who earned his degree in Informatics, also earned the award for a second straight year. The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 7.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as a redshirt junior while leading the Jaguars with 43 steals. He enters his final season with 504 career points and nearly 400 rebounds in his three seasons. He's scored in double-figures 13 times in an IUPUI uniform which includes a career-high 25-point effort at Western Illinois last season. Like Brennan, he too was voted to the five-man Academic All-Horizon League team by the league's faculty athletic representatives.

"I say it a lot, but AB and D.J. are just really mature young men who take care of what's asked of them in the classroom and on the basketball floor," head coach Jason Gardner said. "We've relied on them to set an example for the younger guys and show them how to balance the school work and being a Division I athlete. Both of them were committed to IUPUI prior to me getting the job, but they honored their commitments and have done everything we've asked of them and more.

"A big part of it is that they come from great families and they have great support systems around them. They're great role models and a testament to what hard work looks like."

McCall will be one of three seniors on the 2018-19 season alongside four-year letterwinner Evan Hall and Manhattan-transfer Ahmed Ismail.
