INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI beat UIC 68-43 on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 3) as three Jaguars finished in double figures.
Danielle Lawrence returned after missing last game, leading IUPUI (17-5, 9-2 Horizon) with 20 points on 6-for-11 shooting from three point range. It was the sixth time this season that Lawrence has reached the 20-point mark and she reached 20 points in both matchups against UIC this season, scoring 21 in the first meeting with the Flames.
Tamya Sims finished second on the team with 12 points, going 5-for-7 from the free throw line, and
Sydney Hall also finished in double-figures with 11 points, hitting three threes.
Sims led the Jags on glass with seven rebounds, followed by
Jenna Gunn and
Macee Williams who each finished with six. Williams also added nine points.
After a slow first quarter, IUPUI led 10-4 after 10 minutes, things picked up in the second as IUPUI went crazy from behind the arc, finishing 7-for-9 in the quarter. Hall started things for the Jags with a three to break a 6-0 UIC run. A 6-0 run by IUPUI gave the Jags a nine-point lead. Lawrence then hit back-to-back threes to stretch the lead to 13.
UIC (7-15, 0-11) responded with a three before Lawrence hit her third of the quarter. The Jags closed the quarter on an 11-3 run featuring threes from Hall,
Agatha Beier and Sims to take a 39-22 lead in to the half.
The Jags built their lead to 20 in the fourth quarter, using an 8-0 run that bridged the third and fourth quarter. The run started with three free throws, hitting 11-for-17 on the night,
Holly Hoopingarner hit a jumper and Williams hit a free throw and a layup to end the run.
IUPUI's largest lead came after Lawrence hit the Jags' 10
th three of the night,
Agatha Beier hit a free throw and #Morgan Allen3 dropped in a layup.
The Jags shared the ball really well, finishing with 19 assists, led by seven from Gunn and six from Lawrence.
IUPUI's defense hounded UIC all game, forcing the Flames in to 23 turnovers and holding UIC to just 35.2 percent shooting.
IUPUI will be back in action next Thursday, February 8, when the Jags take on Youngstown State in the Jungle at 7 p.m.
