INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball duo of
Aaron Brennan and
D.J. McCall has been voted Academic All-Horizon League by the league's faculty athletic representatives, as announced on Thursday (Mar. 1). The IUPUI tandem was joined on the five-man team by Drew McDonald and Carson Williams of Northern Kentucky and Wright State's Parker Ernsthausen.
"I'm really proud of these two young men for earning this award," head coach
Jason Gardner said. "They're two of the best young men I've ever been around and both come from really good families. They work their tails off in the classroom and on the court and have set a really good example for our young players.
"AB and D.J. are both guys that I don't really have to worry about because they go to class, they get what they need to get done and then they show up ready to work, whether it be at practice or on game days. They deserved this honor and I'm glad that they're representing our program."
Both Brennan and McCall have already completed their degree requirements while excelling the classroom.
Brennan finished his degree work in seven semesters, majoring in Organizational Leadership and Supervision. He's been named to IUPUI's Academic Advisor's List six times and was chosen to the NABC Honors Court as a junior. He's a two-time Summit League Academic Honor Roll pick and was named to the Horizon League's Academic Honor Roll following the fall semester. This season, he's averaging a career-high 12.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game and is the only IUPUI player to have started all 29 contests. He also ranks among the league leaders in field goal percentage and free throw percentage.
McCall completed his undergraduate work in Informatics in three years and is now pursuing his master's in Informatics. He's been named to IUPUI's Academic Advisor's List six times and was named to the NABC Honors Court last season. He was a two-time Summit League Academic Honor Roll selection before being named a Horizon League Academic Honor Roll pick last fall. On the court, McCall is averaging a career-high 6.8 points per game to go along with 4.2 boards per game. In addition, he's collected a new career-high in steals (43), blocked shots (11) and assists (54) this season.
