JAGS CRUISE IN SEASON-OPENING WIN OVER PURDUE NORTHWEST

IUPUI hit 15 threes on route to a 101-40 win to kick off their 2018-19 regular season.

INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI had six players score in double figures as the Jags cruised to a season-opening 101-40 win over Purdue Northwest on Tuesday (Nov. 6).

IUPUI (1-0) was led by redshirt sophomore Katelyn O'Reilly who scored 22 points on 8-for-9 shooting, including hitting three of four threes. O'Reilly also finished with six rebounds in her first regular season game in two years after sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.

"It is definitely really nice [to be back on the court]," said O'Reilly. "I really lean on my teammates, they are my backbone and really keep pushing me through everything, fatigue and all that. I am really thankful for the teammates I have here."

Junior Holly Hoopingarner and sophomore Macee Williams each score 14 points with Hoopingarner going 4-for-6, hitting both her three-point attempts, and Williams going 6-for-8. For the game, the Jags offense was unstoppable, shooting 47.9 percent from the field as well as hitting 15-of-36 three point shots (41.7%). The 15 threes were one shy of the school record set back in 2016.

"I thought the nice thing was to see us make shots," said head coach Austin Parkinson. "We have shot the ball really well in practice but hadn't so far in our scrimmage or exhibition. The ball movement was great and I think it was great to see a glimpse of the kind of team we can be."

Senior Sydney Hall led IUPUI from behind the arc with four long balls for all 12 of her points and freshman Taylor Ramey's nine points all came from behind the arc. Morgan Allen, who went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, scored 11 points and freshman Briana Mishler scored 10.

The Jags took control of the game from the opening tip, scoring the first seven points of the game. After a bucket from the Pride, IUPUI scored the next 11 points and after threes by O'Reilly and Hoopingarner, the Jags held an 18-2 lead less than five minutes in to the game. The Jags finished the first quarter with a 31-11 lead and were ahead 59-20 after the first 20 minutes of play.

IUPUI's defense stifled Purdue Northwest for the entirety of the game, holding the Pride to just 25.4% shooting on the night. The Jags also forced 23 turnovers, including 13 steals. Hall led IUPUI with three steals and four other Jags each picked up two. IUPUI turned those 23 turnovers in to 29 points and got on the run frequently, scoring 25 fast break points.

Senior Allex Brown led the squad nine rebounds as IUPUI outrebounded the Pride 47-27. The Jags grabbed 18 offensive rebounds, leading to 19 second chance points.

IUPUI's next game will be the first road test for the Jags as they will head to Oxford, Miss., for a showdown with Ole Miss on Friday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. ET.
