INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI women's basketball began its campaign with an 82-52 win over IU Kokomo in the Jags lone exhibition of the season.
Sophomore
Macee Williams led the way for the Jags, scoring 20 points and pulling in 11 rebounds in just 18 minutes, and was one of four Jaguars to score in double figures. Junior
Holly Hoopingarner poured in 14 points, sophomore
Morgan Allen scored 12 points on 6-for-7 shooting and junior
Katelyn O'Reilly scored 10 points. All 11 Jaguars that appeared in the game score a basket.
Ball movement was especially important for the Jags, who finished the night with 25 total assists on 36 made shots.
Agatha Beier dished out a team-high seven assists and
Sydney Hall finished with five.
The Jaguar defense stifled the Cougars, forcing IU Kokomo to commit 31 turnovers with the Jags coming away with 19 steals. Freshman
Taylor Ramey picked up five steals while O'Reilly and Hall each swiped three steals. IUPUI turned the Cougars turnovers in to 29 points.
Austin Parkinson's squad dominated in the paint, racking up 54 points to just 20 and used 24 offensive rebounds to score 26 second chance points. The Jags outrebounded IU Kokomo 49-41 with senior
Allex Brown leading the way for IUPUI with 11 boards.
IUPUI got things started early with, breaking the game open with an 18-2 run that spanned the first and second quarter at one point scoring 14-straight points. The Jags would push their lead 32 midway through the third as IUPUI never trailed in the win.
The Jaguars will kick off the regular season on Tuesday (Nov. 6) when they will play host to Purdue Northwest at 7 p.m. in the Jungle.
