HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The IUPUI women's soccer team's four-game unbeaten and three-game winning streaks came to a crashing close on Saturday night (Oct. 6) as the Jaguars dropped a 1-0 road decision at Northern Kentucky. NKU's Samantha Duwel deposited the game-winner in the 61st minute, poking a shot past Sophia Lipka from point blank range to account for the only scoring of the night.

IUPUI (5-7-3, 2-2-1 HL) nearly got the equalizer in the closing seconds as a Jillian Steinbrink attempt rang off the crossbar and Valentine Pursey's rebound try flew high of target.

NKU (8-3-1, 4-0-1 HL) solved an IUPUI defense that came in riding four straight shutouts as Shawna Zaken sent a long pass up the right side of the field to Emily Soltes. Soltes rolled a cross through the Jaguars' 18-yard box and Duwel was able to maneuver through a defender to get the winner past Lipka. The goal snapped Lipka's personal streak of 444:15 without allowing a goal, marking the third-longest scoreless streak in program history.

IUPUI tried feverishly to get even, but didn't manage many quality attempts until the closing minutes of regulation. Pursey tested NKU keeper Emily Lohmann with a header in the 87th minute, just ahead of the late rally that resulted in Steinbrink and Pursey's shot attempts. Sophomore Miranda Ricks played a beautiful cross to Steinbrink, who drove the header off the bar and could only look on in disbelief as it rebounded back on the field.

NKU closed with a 12-10 shot advantage as Pursey accounted for four of the Jaguars' 10 attempts. Pursey tallied four goals against the Norse in two matches last season, including a hat trick in the Horizon League Tournament.

Lipka finished with a pair of saves while Lohmann made three stops for the Norse.

IUPUI will return to action next Saturday (Oct. 13) when the Jaguars face Wright State at 7:00 p.m. in Dayton, Ohio.
