INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men's swimming and diving team won two dual meets and the women's team won one in the first action of the 2018 schedule for the Jags.
Four teams competed in the event and the scoring was split in to dual meets with IUPUI competing against Xavier, Ball State and the University of Indianapolis.
The men beat Xavier 211-83 and Ball State 229-71 but narrowly fell to UIndy 148-151. On the women's side, the Jags beat Ball State 174-126, but lost to Xavier 121- 173 and also just got beat by UIndy 147-152.
Junior
Ben Levart had a strong meet taking home two wins in the men's 1,000-free (9:33.62), and the 500-free (4:42.57). Levart was also on the second-place 400-yard free relay with
Jackson Sandala,
Joshua Barajas and
Trenton Wolfe.
The Jags also got wins from Sandala in the 200-free (1:41.70),
Mark Auger in the 200-butterfly (1:53.16), and
Jonathan Stoller in the 200-breaststroke. Mitchell Mastey won the men's 1-meter springboard with 305.30 points and
Krisztian Somhegyi won the 3-meter event with 383.40 points, winning by almost 77 points.
Barajas and Sandala also collected second-place finishes in the 100-backstroke and the 100-freestyle, respectively.
Landis Hollingsworth also grabbed a second-place finish in the 100-butterfly with a time of 51.57.
Freshman
Olivia Treski got things started with the first win of the night for the Jags coming in the women's 1,000-yard freestyle. Treski finished in a time of 10:25.62, winning by more than three seconds. Treski also finished fourth in the women's 500-freestyle.
Rylee Dahlman was the only other winner on the night for the women, finishing with 254.70 points in the 3-meter springboard. Dahlman came in second in the 1-meter competition by just over one point.
Other strong performances from the women included
Meagan Ronci finishing third in the women's 200-freestyle (1:55.28),
Aubrey Wing taking second in the 100-breaststroke (1:07.87),
Carmen Escalante Ruiz finishing third in the 200-butterfly (2:09.15),
Tori Kroon finishing third in the 50-free (24.68),
Andrea Hanas taking second in the 100-free (53.84) and the 400 yard freestyle relay finishing third with a time of 3:37.13.
The next time the Jags hit the pool will be on Jan. 12-13 when they head to Cleveland to take on Cleveland State and see the site of this year's Horizon League championships.
