SWIMMING AND DIVING FINISHES UP COMPETITION IN CLEVELAND

The men's team earns wins over Wright State and UIC while the women get a win over Wright State.

CLEVELAND, Ohio –
The IUPUI swimming and diving teams faced off against three conference opponents at the site of the 2018 Horizon League championships and came away with three dual meet wins on Saturday (Jan .13).

The men's team beat Wright State (157-136) and UIC (181-117) but fell to host Cleveland State (130-169). The women earned a win over Wright State 202-88 but fell to both UIC (126-173) and Cleveland State (108-191).

It was another strong competition for #Krisztian Somhegyi# who won the men's 3-meter with 363.10 points and finished second in the 1-meter. On the women's side, #Rylee Dahlman# took home second in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter competitions.

#Ben Levart# earned the first win in the pool for the Jags on the afternoon, taking home the men's 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:33.82. Teammate #Jackson Sandala# earned another win over the weekend taking home the top spot in the men's 200-yard freestyle in 1:41.08, winning by more than two seconds. Levart swept the distance competitions later in the night, winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:38.00. Freshman #Tommy Lombardo# earned a second-place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:10.00.

The women didn't earn any event wins but grabbed a couple of second-place finishes. #Olivia Treski# finished the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:30.53 and #Carmen Escalante Ruiz# took second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.88). The Jags also took third and fourth in the 200 butterfly with strong finishes from #Allison Walker# and #Stephanie Krause#.

IUPUI returns home next weekend for its final two home meets of the season. On Friday (Jan. 19) IUPUI will take on Toledo at 3 p.m. The Jags will face Horizon League foe Youngstown State in a dual meet on Saturday (Jan. 20), that will also start at 3 p.m.
