STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The IUPUI women's soccer team authored a second straight shutout on this weekend's trip to New York City, handing Wagner a goose egg in a 1-0 win. Sophomore Sophia Lipka turned in her third shutout of the year, all of which have come on the road. Senior Krissy Kirkhoff tallied the game-winner early in the second half for her second score of the year and 25th of her career.

After a lackluster first half, the Jaguars (3-3) put an authoritative stamp on the game after intermission, keyed by Kirkhoff's score in the 52nd minute.

"We played pretty flat in the first half. In the second half, we created so many opportunities," Kirkhoff said. "(At halftime), coach told us to pick up the intensity. He knew we had more in us and needed to leave it all on the field."

The message was well received as Kirkhoff had a shot sail wide in the 47th minute before netting the game-winner minutes later. The veteran attacker got loose on a breakaway and slid a shot past Wagner's Delaney Beck, who came on to start in goal in the second half. Lipka's punt went past midfield to Pursey, who one touched it ahead to Kirkhoff for her second assist of the season.

Not content with just one goal, moments later senior Sarah Jacobs had a shot ring off the crossbar in the 54th minute. The Jaguars continued to chase an insurance score up until the final horn, including a late flurry that included attempts from Valentine Pursey, Kirkhoff and Hayley Shelton

With her 25th career goal, Kirkhoff became just the fifth player in program history to reach that number, joining Megan Hock, Karrie Reising, Tori Minnich and Alicia Brock.

At the opposite end, Lipka finished with five saves and faced 11 shots in the victory. Wagner (2-1-1) outshot the Jags 11-10 as Kirkhoff and Wagner's Sandra Battista tied for a game-high four attempts.

Lipka was brilliant in goal with three of her five saves coming after halftime.

"Soph had incredible saves and was the one that kept us in the game," Kirkhoff said.

"We haven't had a two win weekend yet this season, so it feels great to get two wins, especially shutouts," freshman Natalie McNally said. "I think the defensive line played well this weekend and Soph came up with some big saves when we needed her to."

IUPUI will return home to host Ball State on Friday (Sept. 8) and Illinois State (Sept. 10). Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN3 and tickets are just $5 for adults and $2 for youth ages 3-12. In addition, IUPUI students are admitted for FREE with a valid Crimson Card.
