GRANVILLE, Ohio – The IUPUI men's swimming and diving team (5-1) will depart for its first road meet this weekend, squaring up with Division III powerhouse Denison (3-2) Friday (Jan. 13) at 1 p.m. EST. The men are coming off a sweep against Xavier and Ball State this past weekend and will look to keep its strong performance going against the eastern foes.
The Jags sole loss on the season came down to the wire in a hard-fought 142-158 defeat at the hands of Cincinnati (Nov. 10). Since then, the Jags went on to finish second out of 13 teams at the 2016 House of Champions and recorded the sweep Friday (Jan. 6).
David Sweezer was named the Summit League Swimmer of the Week for the first time as the sophomore nabbed two first-place finishes in the 500 and 1000 Free.
Krisztian Somhegyi was also named the Summit League Diver of the Week for the fifth time this year after breaking the program record in the men's three-meter springboard.
Ben Levart has the third fastest finish in the Summit League in the men's 500, 1000 and 1650 Free.
Denison has faced many elite Division I opponents this season, including Ohio State. They share one common opponent with IUPUI, having defeated Xavier Nov. 5 in dominating fashion, 150.5-111.5. Currently, Denison is the top overall ranked Division III team and feature a roster that includes the likes of Jack Lindell, last year's NCAA Swimmer of the Year. Lindell has the nation's fastest times in the 400 Individual Medley (3:51.56) and the 200 Back (1:46.68) for all Division III institutions.
The meet is just one of three remaining duals for IUPUI before they host the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships in mid-February (Feb. 15-18).
